October 1, 2009 - The 60th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China.
I had heard about how extravagant these festivities were, but I was always....................and I'm trying to choose my words carefully................unsure about how I felt about the military parade. I understand it's tradition, it has to be done. But I just don't know I how I feel about the image you're trying to present.
I'm proudly Shanghainese and I love my country more than anything. This is our Paramount Leader reviewing the troops. Notice the upright posture, the crisp delivery. His words mirror those of our dear comrade Deng. And I have an issue with the Western media describing his attire as a ''Mao'' suit. Chairman Mao did not create that suit. It was designed by Dr. Sun Yat-Sen, the recognized father of modern China. The suit symbolizes the rights and freedoms accorded to the citizens of the Republic of China. So stop calling it a Mao suit.
Yeah, I still don't know how I feel about watching tanks roll down Chang'An Avenue.
