I drank a glass of maotai last night. I think it's starting to grow on me - I'm beginning to appreciate it's distinct fragrance. There's a certain pungency to it, but beneath all of its rusticity, there's a hidden floral aroma that begins revealing itself if you pay enough attention. Surprisingly sweet on the palate, with an almost viscous texture. Alcohol remains hidden at first, until it roars out again 10 seconds after you've swallowed.
Lethal. But I'm starting to get it.
