2008 Alsace

2008 Heimberger Les Origines Vielles Vignes Riesling, AC Alsace

In contrast to the lovely tension filled rieslings of Germany, Alsace somehow feels lumbering, unrefined, clumsy almost. Rich bouquet, citrus fruit, but the alcohol really roars. I suppose it may be an issue to what my palate perceives as balance, but these wines just feel a bit overdone. A more elegant touch would be beneficial - especially out of what you claim to be old vines.
