2008 Mâcon Uchizy

2008 Paul & Mallory Talmard Mâcon Uchizy, AC Mâcon Uchizy

It's hard to shake off prejudices. But I'm working hard, to convince my friends to keep an open mind about wine. For example, wines for special dinners, in this case, a big birthday. Everyone expects a big red wine - something dense, structured, powerful - something that says, yes, I'm getting my money's worth. But it would be a shame to cook so many wonderful Chinese dishes, and have them completely eviscerated by a tannic nuke of a wine. Which is where this comes in. A simple chardonnay from an unheralded part of Burgundy, that just delivers.

The wine showcases simple, textbook chardonnay characters. Pure fruit, creamy texture, elegant but wonderfully balanced. Married perfectly with almost all the dishes, ranging from savoury to delicate, spicy to highly aromatic - and that's all you can ask for out of a wine, isn't it?
