2007 Salice Salentino

DSC_7898

2007 Cantele Riserva, DOC Salice Salentino, Puglia

The new year's all about expanding wine drinking horizons, so why not start by drinking obscure Italian wines? A blend of indigenous grapes, 80% Negroamaro and 20% Malvasia Nera, this is surprisingly very good. Dark colours, some oak, but a graphite minerality showing. Develops a meaty, savoury character, harmonious on the palate, transitions well.

A balanced, interesting wine . . . we all need to be drinking more of those.

  1. I'm glad you found a good one. I like these wines, but find that they are hit and miss coming through Vintages. The last 2 or 3 I tried were all sickeningly sweet and confected. Big disappointment! How the LCBO could classify them as “dry” is beyond me...

  2. I had the regular release, which I wrote about at my blog http://wineinmycloset.blogspot.com/2010/09/boot-heel-of-wine.html and thought it very nice for the price (just $10). So much good wine out there.
