Back to the beginning

It's been far too long since I've been to Niagara. I finally got a chance to spend some time there again Friday, and really get to do what I (truly, madly, deeply) love. Talking with winemakers, tasting barrel samples, and going through new vintages - to learn from them and be reminded that while sense of place is paramount, none of this is possible without the dedication and hard work of the human element behind it. Terroir is a singularity of time and place, but (human) traditions and know-how are a part of it too.

I finally got a chance to taste the 2010's recently/just being bottled around Niagara - I found I liked quite a lot of them. Always a thrill to taste the newest vintages still in barrel, and oh yes, the 2011's across the board will be very, very, very exciting wines. Photos and tasting notes, up soon. Many thanks and much appreciation; great meeting new friends, catching up with old ones. As always, a thrill to be back in Niagara.
